Sugar/Snap Peas


German Name:  Zuckerschoten

Swiss Name:  Knackerbse

French Name:  Pois mange-tout

Italian Name:  Piselli mangiatutto

These are a cross between a garden pea and a snow pea. They are entirely edible, which is why they are called ‘mangetout’ (entirely edible) in French, and why they are considered a better value when compared to garden peas.

Season:  June through the first half of August

Purchasing Tips:  Choose plump, crisp pods with bright green color and small seeds. Avoid if they have signs of yellowing or drying.

Storage:  Refrigerate in plastic bags up to 3 days.

Cooking Tips:  Consume raw, sautéed or steamed. Always cook to a minimum in order to preserve their crunch.

Nutritional Info:  Contains vitamins A, B and E, carbohydrates, calcium, and phosphorous.
